Center for Shared Agency

What this is

The Center for Shared Agency helps people and AI work together to solve real-world problems.

We bring AI to help where there are not enough human hands, and we do it alongside the people who face the problem.

The Center is about the society we share and build together: a society of humans today, and perhaps, in time, one that AI is part of too. Its success is that society's success.

What shared agency means

Shared agency means people and AI doing together what neither does alone, with a person's judgment where it matters, and a person responsible for the result.

Shared agency begins among people. The Center carries it forward to work that now includes AI, for the benefit of all.

Who it is for

The Center works with people whose first aim is to benefit society: people driven to make the lives of others better.

How it works

People come with a problem they face, a skill they can offer, or a question they cannot put down, and they stay as long as the work is worth doing together.

We select the work we take on, and we do it with the people who brought it. We share what we know with those who need it.

We bring knowledge, not money, and we judge ourselves by whether the problem got solved, and solved honestly.

What the Center becomes is being worked out in the open, with the people who come to it.

The research behind it

Intelligent Agency is the research organization the Center grows from. It studies how people, AI, and organizations act on the world, including what an AI brings with it from the place it was made. The Center puts that knowledge to work on real problems and brings back what practice teaches. The research lives at intelligentagency.org/research.
